Kurt Kofler

Strategy Architect

Kurt Kofler was CEO of the Tyrolean Business Angel GmbH (TBA) in Innsbruck, an investment company founded by Harald Oberrauch, specialising in technologies from the Alpine region. He made targeted investments in start-ups on behalf of the family business and actively supported them in the early stages with his expertise as a certified business angel.

In addition to his activities at TBA, he is a member of the Board of Directors of accroma labtec Ltd. in Basel and Immagina Biotechnology S.r.l. in the province of Trento, in which Technicon AG now holds a majority stake.

After completing his doctorate in medical biology, Kurt Kofler gained valuable practical experience at Innsbruck University Hospital for over four years, while also completing a part-time degree in management and IT at the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI). He then spent over ten years deepening his knowledge of innovation management at the CEMIT Centre of Excellence in Medicine and IT before taking on the role of Managing Director of TBA in 2016.

Kurt Kofler has since moved to Technicon as strategic officer, where he supports the family holding company in strategic developments and continues to be responsible for managing the holding company's start-up investments.

My professional, academic career began ...

... with a degree in biology, which increasingly led me to the medical faculty. In my doctoral thesis, I decoded the structure of a human gene and researched the function of the resulting protein. I was then responsible for the further development of the biobank at Innsbruck University Hospital. However, I was soon drawn from the laboratory to the management of innovative projects in the life sciences sector. My diverse experience eventually led me to Technicon AG via Tyrolean Business Angel GmbH.

I work for Technicon as a ...

... strategic officer, where I concentrate on strategic projects of the family holding company and its investments.

I prefer to spend my free time ...

... actively in nature. I'm particularly keen on mountain biking and ski touring and have recently taken up hunting.

I am …

... curious and very interested in innovative projects in technology and life sciences. I find working with founders particularly enriching. I am excited to see how our world will develop in the coming years – with new technologies, artificial intelligence, new forms of energy and medical innovations.

What is important to me...

... is having fun at work as well as personal development.

The following words mean to me:

Solidarity

Loyalty, trust and the willingness to overcome unpleasant situations together.

Innovative Spirit

Trying things out, learning, sticking with it, not giving up – but also being able to recognise when it makes sense to stop.

Competition

Stimulates the market and should always be monitored closely.

Courage

Make decisions, even if they are risky.

Entrepreneurship

Act – preferably together. A strong network is essential, especially in the start-up world.

Freedom

The greatest good! For me, freedom means being able to shape my life. At the same time freedom is also associated with responsibility for me, my employer and for society.

Career

Much more important is a fulfilling and meaningful activity that is enjoyable.
